Abstract
A method for producing a polymeric material comprises reacting a first reactant with a second reactant. The first reactant comprises anhydrous phosphorous pentoxide and the second reactant comprises an alcohol. A method for producing a polymeric salt material comprises reacting a first reactant comprising an amine with a second reactant comprising a phosphate ester.
Claims75
A process for producing a flame retardant polymeric material, the process comprising:
- forming a precursor polymeric material comprising a phosphate ester in a first reaction by reacting anhydrous phosphorus pentoxide and a first reactant comprising a cyclic ether and an alcohol, the cyclic ether being selected from one or more of tetrahydrofuran and tetrahydropyran,
- subsequently forming the flame retardant polymeric material in a second reaction in which the precursor polymeric material is reacted with a second reactant that comprises a resol phenolic resin.
A process for producing a flame retardant polymeric material, the process comprising:
- forming a precursor polymeric material comprising a phosphate ester in a first reaction by reacting anhydrous phosphorus pentoxide and a first reactant selected from the group consisting of a cyclic ether and an alcohol, the cyclic ether being selected from one or more of tetrahydrofuran and tetrahydropyran,
- subsequently forming the flame retardant polymeric material in a second reaction in which the precursor polymeric material is reacted with a second reactant that comprises a cyclic ether to reduce the acid value to approximately 50 mg KOH/g, and
- adding a cross linking agent selected from the group consisting of cycloaliphatic epoxides, poly functional aziridines, poly carbodiimides zinc ammonia complexes, and zirconium ammonia complexes.
A process for producing a flame retardant polymeric material, the process comprising:
- forming a precursor polymeric material comprising a phosphate ester in a first reaction by reacting anhydrous phosphorus pentoxide and a first reactant selected from the group consisting of a cyclic ether and an alcohol, the cyclic ether being selected from one or more of tetrahydrofuran and tetrahydropyran,
- subsequently forming the flame retardant polymeric material in a second reaction in which the precursor polymeric material is reacted with a second reactant that comprises a cyclic ether to reduce the acid value to below 7 mg KOH/g, and
- adding a cross linking agent selected from the group consisting of isocyanates.
A process for producing a flame retardant polymeric material, the process comprising:
- forming a precursor polymeric material having a structure represented by:
- where R is an alkylene having 3 or 4 carbon atoms, in a first reaction by reacting anhydrous phosphorus pentoxide and a reactant comprising one or more of 1,3 propane diol and 1,4 butane diol, the anhydrous phosphorus pentoxide and said reactant being in stoichiometric ratios;
- and
- subsequently forming the flame retardant polymeric material from the precursor polymeric material in a second reaction in which the precursor polymeric material is reacted either (a) with amino resins, or (b) with a polymer having an amine functional group and melamine.
