Method and apparatus to select a parameter/mode using a capacitor of a feedback loop of the power supply

An integrated control circuit for a power supply, comprising:

• a terminal to be coupled to a capacitor of a feedback loop of the power supply;
• a threshold detect and timing circuit coupled to the terminal to determine a capacitance value of the capacitor during a time period;
• a parameter/mode selection circuit coupled to the threshold detect and timing circuit to determine one of a plurality of parameters/modes of the integrated control circuit during the time period in response to the capacitance value,
• wherein the integrated control circuit receives a feedback loop compensation at the terminal from the capacitor after the time period has ended;
• and
• a drive signal generator to be coupled to control switching of a switch included in the power supply in response to a feedback signal received at the terminal to regulate a transfer of energy from an input of the power supply to an output of the power supply.
