Abstract
Provided herein are methods and devices for inducing the formation of functional replacement nonarticular cartilage tissues and ligament tissues. These methods and devices involve the use of osteogenic proteins, and are useful in repairing defects in the larynx, trachea, interarticular menisci, intervertebral discs, ear, nose, ribs and other fibrocartilaginous tissues in a mammal.
Claims7
An implantable device for repairing a defect in a nonarticular cartilage tissue of a mammal, the device consisting essentially of an osteogenic protein disposed in a devitalized cartilage, wherein the osteogenic protein is selected from the group consisting of osteogenic protein (OP)-1, OP-2, OP-3, bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2, BMP-3, BMP-4, BMP-5, BMP-6, BMP-9, BMP-10, BMP-11, BMP-15, BMP-3B, decapentaplegic (DPP), vegetal -1 (Vg-1), vegetal-related-1 (Vgr-1), and 60A protein.
An implantable device for repairing a defect in a nonarticular cartilage tissue of a mammal, the device consisting essentially of an osteogenic protein disposed in a carboxymethylcellulose carrier.
