Abstract
The invention provides a process for preparing an overvoltage protection material comprising: (i) preparing a mixture comprising a polymer binder precursor and a conductive material; and (ii) heating the mixture to cause reaction of the polymer binder precursor and generate a polymer matrix having conductive material dispersed therein, wherein the polymer binder precursor is chosen such that substantially no solvent is generated during the reaction.
Claims22
A process for preparing an overvoltage protection device, the process comprising:
- providing a mixture comprising a conductive material and a polymer binder precursor including a hydrosilane and a vinylsilane;
- applying the mixture between and in contact with adjacent metallic electrodes of a substrate having metallic electrodes separated by gaps;
- and
- heating the mixture to cause a polyhydrosilylation reaction of the polymer binder precursor to form a polycarbosilane polymer binder, and to produce a reaction product comprising the polycarbosilane polymer binder having the conductive material dispersed therein;
- wherein the hydrosilane and the vinylsilane are selected such that the reaction generates substantially no solvent and the reaction product is substantially solvent-free and includes substantially no voids.
