Determination of unicode points from glyph elements

A machine-readable storage medium comprising a glyph substitution table comprising:

• at least one Unicode field for storing multiple Unicode representations, the multiple Unicode representations defining a collision;
• at least a first glyph field for storing a first glyph of a character;
• at least a second glyph field for storing a second glyph of the character;
• at least one link pointing from the second glyph field to the first glyph field, wherein the at least one link is pointing via a substitution method selected from a group of substitution methods comprising single substitution, multiple substitution, alternative substitution, ligature substation, and context substitution, and
• at least one additional link pointing from the first glyph field to only a single Unicode representation of the multiple Unicode representations, the at least one additional link resulting from a resolution of the collision.

A machine-readable storage medium comprising machine-readable instructions that, when executed by the machine, cause the machine to perform a method comprising:

• receiving an indication of at least one command relating to text that contains at least one first glyph;
• determining that the at least one first glyph maps to multiple corresponding Unicode representations, the multiple corresponding Unicode representations defining a collision;
• resolving the collision such that the at least one first glyph maps to only a single corresponding Unicode representation of the multiple corresponding Unicode representations;
• converting the at least one first glyph to the single corresponding Unicode representation in response to the command;
• performing the command on the single Unicode representation of the at least one first glyph;
• creating at least one further glyph for the single Unicode representation of the at least one first glyph;
• mapping the at least one further glyph to the at least one first glyph via a glyph substitution table, the glyph substitution table having data structures to enable mapping via:
• a) single substitution, wherein the single substitution substitutes the at least one first glyph with the at least one further glyph element;
• b) multiple substitution, wherein the multiple substitution substitutes the at least one first glyph element with a plurality of additional glyph elements;
• c) alternative substitution, wherein the alternative substitution substitutes the at least one first glyph element with the at least one further glyph element, the at least one further glyph element chosen from two or more possible glyphs;
• d) ligature substitution, wherein the ligature substitution substitutes a plurality of glyph elements with the at least one further glyph element;
• and
• e) context substitution, wherein the context substitution substitutes the at least one first glyph element appearing in context with an added glyph with the at least one further glyph element appearing in context with the added glyph.
