Electromagnetic musical instruments

An electromagnetic (EM) musical instrument system comprising:

• a body;
• a cavity coupled to the body;
• a first sound hole coupled to the cavity, to free space adjacent to the EM musical instrument, and to a first current loop;
• a second current loop coupled to the cavity, wherein the first current loop and the second current loop are configured to provide current in opposite directions;
• a first circuit to convert an audio signal into an associated electrical signal;
• a second circuit to convert the electrical signal to an associated EM signal;
• and
• a third circuit to apply the EM signal to a body of an EM musical instrument, wherein the EM musical instrument produces an associated sound.

An electromagnetic (EM) musical instrument comprising:

• a body having a top plate of EM resonant material;
• a center medium defining a cavity coupled to a sound hole of the top plate;
• a bottom plate of EM resonant material coupled to the center medium;
• and
• a port coupled to the body and configured to apply an unmodulated excitation signal received from an EM signal generator to the body, wherein a characteristic of the body modifies the excitation signal to produce an output signal that varies sound produced by the EM musical instrument.
