Spectrum verification imaging system and method

A method for determining whether a color of an object is within a predetermined color range, the method comprising the steps of:

• projecting, from a light source, a light having a first predetermined light wavelength spectrum upon the object;
• capturing, with an image capture device, a first monochromatic image of the object having first luminous intensity information associated therewith;
• projecting, from the light source, a light having a second predetermined light wavelength spectrum upon the object;
• capturing, with the image capture device, a second monochromatic image of the object having second luminous intensity information associated therewith;
• and
• comparing, with a controller operable with the image capture device, each of the first luminous intensity information with a first predetermined statistical range corresponding to a plurality of images of a reference object illuminated by the light having the first predetermined light wavelength spectrum, and comparing the second luminous intensity information to a second statistical range corresponding to a plurality of images of the reference object illuminated by the light having a second predetermined light wavelength spectrum.

A method in a system of calibrating a system for determining whether a color of an object is within a predetermined color range, the method comprising the steps of:

• projecting, with a light source, a light having a predetermined light wavelength spectrum upon at least a reference region of a reference object having a reference color;
• capturing, with an image capture device, a plurality of monochromatic images of the object, each image having luminous intensity information associated therewith;
• and
• determining, with a controller, a predetermined acceptable range of luminous intensities from the luminous intensity information of each reference region of the plurality of monochromatic images.
