The present invention provides compositions comprising cationic lipids, liposomes and nucleic acid-lipid particles comprising the cationic lipids, and methods of using such compositions, liposomes, and nucleic acid-lipid particles.

A compound having the following structure:
- wherein R3 and R4 are both linoleyl.
A compound of Formula I having the following structure:
- wherein:
- R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of:
- H and C1-C3 alkyl;
- and
- R3 and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, wherein both R3 and R4 comprise at least three sites of unsaturation.
