## Abstract

A novel peptide adhesive motif is described that requires no receptor or cross-links to achieve maximal adhesive strength. Several peptides with different degrees of adhesive strength have been designed and synthesized using solid phase chemistries. All peptides contain a common hydrophobic core sequence flanked by positively or negatively charged amino acids sequences.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An adhesive peptide selected from the group consisting of: E3h9E3 (SEQ ID NO: 4), K3h9E3 (SEQ ID NO: 5), E3h9K3 (SEQ ID NO: 6), K3h9K3 (SEQ ID NO: 7) and X3h9X3 (SEQ ID NO: 10),
wherein
h9 is the hydrophobic core sequence FLIVIGSII (SEQ ID NO: 2);
K3 is the tripeptide lysine-lysine-lysine;
E3 is the tripeptide glutamic acid-glutamic acid-glutamic acid; and
X3 is the tripeptide diaminopropionic acid-diaminopropionic acid-diaminopropionic acid.

### Claim 2

An adhesive peptide selected from the group consisting of: (K3h9)2K3 (SEQ ID NO: 8) and (K3h9)3K3 (SEQ ID NO: 9),
wherein
h9 is the hydrophobic core sequence FLIVIGSII (SEQ ID NO: 2); and
K3 is the tripeptide lysine-lysine-lysine.

### Claim 3

An adhesive peptide selected from the group consisting of: SEQ ID NOs: 25-29, 31 and 32.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1, 2, 3)

A composition comprising an adhesive peptide of claims 1, 2 or 3.

### Claim 5

A method comprising:
a) providing:
i) a peptide selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOs: 4-10, 25-29,31 and 32;
ii) a solution having an approximate pH of 12;
b) contacting said peptide with said solution under conditions that create an adhesive peptide.

### Claim 6

A kit for the preparation of an adhesive peptide comprising: a syringe having a first barrel, said first barrel filled with an aqueous solution of a peptide selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NOs: 4-10, 25-29, 31 and 32, buffered to maintain a pH between 6 and 7, and a second barrel, said second barrel filled with a base having a pH of approximately 12, wherein said first and second barrels are operably linked to a tip having a single lumen, wherein said lumen is in fluidic communication with said first and second barrels.
