Abstract
A display panel and a method of manufacturing the same in which a storage electrode is formed on a first base substrate, and an insulating layer is formed on the first base substrate to cover the storage electrode. The insulating layer is recessed directly above the storage electrode. A pixel electrode faces the storage electrode and is formed on the insulating layer. A protruding portion is formed on a second base substrate facing the first base substrate. The protruding portion protrudes toward a concaved portion of the insulating layer.
Claims21
A display panel, comprising:
- an array substrate comprising:
- a first base substrate comprising a plurality of pixel areas;
- a storage electrode arranged in each pixel area of the first base substrate;
- an insulating layer arranged on the first base substrate to cover the storage electrode, the insulating layer comprising a concave portion directly above the storage electrode;
- and
- a pixel electrode arranged on the insulating layer and extended in the concave portion to face the storage electrode;
- an opposite substrate comprising:
- a second base substrate facing the first base substrate;
- and
- a protruding portion arranged on the second base substrate at a position corresponding to the storage electrode, overlapped with the pixel electrode, and protruded toward the first base substrate;
- and
- a liquid crystal layer interposed between the array substrate and the opposite substrate.
A method of manufacturing a display panel, comprising:
- forming a gate electrode and a storage electrode in a pixel area of a first base substrate;
- forming a gate insulating layer on the first base substrate to cover the gate electrode and the storage electrode;
- forming an active pattern, an ohmic contact pattern, a source electrode, and a drain electrode on the gate insulating layer, the source electrode and the drain electrode having the same shape as that of the ohmic contact pattern;
- forming an insulating layer to cover the source electrode and the drain electrode and comprising a concave portion directly above the storage electrode;
- forming a pixel electrode on the insulating layer;
- forming a protruding portion on a second base substrate;
- coupling the first base substrate and the second base substrates to each other such that the second base substrate faces the first base substrate with the protruding portion protruding toward the storage electrode;
- and
- interposing a liquid crystal layer between the first base substrate and the second base substrate.
