Abstract
Novel catalyst systems for metathesis reactions, in particular for the metathesis of nitrile rubber, which contain a specific salt additive in addition to the metathesis catalyst are provided.

A catalyst system comprising a metathesis catalyst which is a complex catalyst based on a metal of transition group 6 or 8 of the Periodic Table and has at least one ligand bound in a carbene-like fashion to the metal, and an alkaline earth metal chloride.
