Abstract
In one embodiment, the patent application comprises an access terminal, comprising a processing unit, a memory operably connected to the processing unit, a receive circuitry operably connected to the processing unit, a transmit circuitry having a power amplifier used in both single carrier and multi-carrier operations, wherein said transmit circuitry is operably connected to the processing unit, and a throttle control unit operably connected to the power amplifier, adapted to throttle power to provide sufficient headroom for the power amplifier.
Claims52
An access terminal, comprising:
- a transmit circuit having a power amplifier used in both single carrier and multi-carrier operations;
- and
- a throttle control unit operatively connected to said transmit circuit and operatively enabled according to one or more throttle rules establishing a throttling order to signal said transmit circuit to selectively throttle power of one or more portions of an RF signal that is input to said power amplifier to maintain sufficient power amplifier headroom for said power amplifier.
An apparatus for throttling power over a reverse link, comprising:
- means for establishing an RF signal suitable for amplification by a power amplifier that is operatively enabled for use in both single carrier and multi-carrier operations;
- means for establishing one or more throttle rules establishing a throttling order associated with one or more overhead channels, one or more data channels, and/or one or more pilot channels of said one or more carriers;
- and
- means for selectively throttling power of one or more portions of said RF signal prior to being input to said power amplifier to maintain sufficient power amplifier headroom for said power amplifier, said means for selectively throttling power being operatively responsive to said throttling order.
A method of throttling power over a reverse link in an access terminal, comprising:
- providing at least one signal from a throttle control unit to a transmit circuit having a power amplifier used in both single carrier and multi-carrier operations, said at least one signal being based, at least in part, on one or more throttle rules establishing a throttling order;
- and
- with said transmit circuit, in response to said at least one signal, selectively throttling power of one or more portions of an RF signal that is input to said power amplifier to provide sufficient power amplifier headroom for said power amplifier.
