Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of a natriurectic peptide, such as urodilatin, for treating a patient suffering from heart failure, such as acute decompensated heart failure. Preferably, a composition comprising an effective amount of urodilatin is intravenously administered to the patient continuously through a time period of at least 24 hours and up to 120 hours, preferably at least 48 hours.
Claims26
A method for treating acute decompensated heart failure (ALDHF) or decompensated heart failure (DHF), comprising continuously administering to a patient in need thereof for a time period of at least 24 hours a composition comprising mannitol and an effective amount of urodilatin,
- wherein the composition is an aqueous solution of 0.9% NaCl in which the urodilatin and mannitol are dissolved,
- wherein the concentration of the mannitol in the composition is 10 times the concentration of the urodilatin, and
- wherein the patient exhibits an improvement in ADHF or DHF related dyspnea.
