Abstract
This invention relates to adsorbents useful for storing hydrogen and other small molecules, and to methods for preparing such adsorbents. The adsorbents are produced by heating carbonaceous materials to a temperature of at least 900° C. in an atmosphere of hydrogen.
Claims17
A process for producing a composition that comprises carbon nanostructure, comprising heating a carbonaceous material in the presence of H2 to a temperature of at least 900° C. for a time sufficient to generate an increase in pore volume and/or surface area of the material and form the carbon nanostructure, wherein the carbonaceous material is selected from the group consisting of polysaccharides, carbohydrates, and natural polymers.
A process for producing a composition that comprises carbon nanostructure, comprising heating a carbonaceous material in the presence of H2 to a temperature of 1000° C. to 1600° C. for a time sufficient to generate an increase in pore volume and/or surface area of the material and form the carbon nanostructure, wherein the carbonaceous material is a synthetic polymer.
