Abstract
Energy devices such as batteries and methods for fabricating the energy devices. The devices are small, thin and lightweight, yet provide sufficient power for many handheld electronics.
Claims21
A method for the deposition of electrocatalyst particles onto a surface, comprising the steps of:
- (a) dispersing electrocatalyst particles in a liquid vehicle to form an electrocatalyst particle suspension;
- (b) ejecting droplets of the electrocatalyst particle suspension through an orifice and onto a surface, wherein the orifice has a diameter of not greater than about 100 μm;
- and
- (c) during the ejecting step, moving the orifice relative to the surface to selectively deposit the electrocatalyst suspension onto the surface and form a discrete pattern of electrocatalyst particles on the surface.

A method for the deposition of electrocatalyst particles onto a surface, comprising the steps of:
- (a) dispersing electrocatalyst particles in a liquid vehicle to form an electrocatalyst particle suspension, wherein said electrocatalyst particles comprise an metallic active species phase dispersed on a carbon support phase and have a volume average particle size of not greater than about 20 μm;
- (b) ejecting droplets of the electrocatalyst suspension through an orifice and onto a surface, wherein the orifice has a diameter of not greater than about 100 μm;
- and
- (c) during the ejecting step, moving the orifice over the surface to selectively deposit the electrocatalyst suspension onto the surface and form a discrete pattern of electrocatalyst particles on the surface.
