Abstract
Substituted hydrofluoroalkylphenol compounds and methods of using the compounds, e.g., for anesthetizing a subject, are disclosed.

A compound represented by the formula (Formula I):
- wherein
- R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted branched C3-C6 alkyl group;
- R2 is hydrogen or a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C3 alkyl group;
- and
- R3 is a C1-C3 fluoroalkyl group;
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

- wherein
- R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted branched C3-C6 alkyl group;
- R2′ is a C2-C6 hydrofluoroalkyl group;

A method of preparing a compound represented by the formula (Formula II):
- wherein
- R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted branched C3-C6 alkyl group;
- and
- R3 is a C1-C3 fluoroalkyl group;
- the method comprising the step of:
- reacting a phenolic compound of the formula (Formula III):
- in which R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted branched C3-C6 alkyl group,
- with a C2-C6-hydrofluoroalkylating agent under conditions such that the compound of Formula II is prepared.
