Substituted indoles and methods of their use

A compound having Formula 2

• or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or ester form thereof, wherein
• R7 is hydrogen, CO2H, or CONHNH2;
• p is from 0 to 4;
• R8 is hydrogen, —C1-6alkoxy(CO2H), C(═O)NR10R11 or C(═O)amino acid;
• R10 and R11 are joined together with the nitrogen to which they are attached to form a 3 to 9 membered saturated ring comprising 2 to 8 carbon ring atoms;
• with the proviso that when R8 is hydrogen, R7 is CO2H or CONHNH2;
• R9 is NR12SO2R13;
• R12 is H, C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 perfluoroalkyl, benzyl, phenyl, or heterocyclyl unsubstituted or substituted with OCF3, halogen, C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 perfluoroalkyl, benzyl, phenyl, or heterocyclyl;
• and
• R13 is C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 perfluoroalkyl, benzyl, phenyl, or heterocyclyl unsubstituted or substituted with OCF3, halogen, C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 perfluoroalkyl, benzyl, phenyl, or heterocyclyl.
