Abstract
A solid lubricant and composition useful for lubricating the flanges of locomotive wheels, railcar wheels, rail track and in applications where it is desirable to reduce friction when metal contacts metal. The solid lubricant having from about twenty-five percent to about seventy percent by volume of a polymeric carrier, about five to seventy-five percent by volume of organic and inorganic extreme pressure additives, about zero to twenty percent by volume synthetic extreme pressure anti-wear liquid oil, and about zero to one percent by volume optical brightener.
Claims16
A process for producing a lubricating stick, said process comprising the steps of:
- blending together a first formula comprising at least one first polymeric carrier selected from the group consisting of:
- a linear low-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, a polyolefin, and a synthetic wax and at least one lubricant powder;
- extruding said first formula into a plurality of first formula pellet-sized shapes;
- blending together a second formula comprising at least one second polymeric carrier selected from the group consisting of:
- a linear high-density polyethylene, high density-polyethylene, high-density polypropylene and a high-density methylpentene, and at least one lubricant powder;
- extruding said second formula into a plurality of second formula pellet-sized shapes;
- shaping said first formula pellet-sized shapes into a first formula portion;
- shaping said second formula pellet-sized shapes into a second formula portion;
- and
- joining said first and second formula portions together to form a lubricant stick having a first end portion consisting of said first formula and a second end portion consisting of said second formula.
A process for producing a lubricating stick, said process comprising the steps of:
- blending together a first formula comprising at least one first polymeric carrier selected from the group consisting of:
- a linear low-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, a polyolefin, and a synthetic wax and at least one lubricant powder;
- extruding said first formula into a plurality of first formula pellet-sized shapes;
- blending together a second formula comprising at least one second polymeric carrier selected from the group consisting of:
- a linear high-density polyethylene, high density-polyethylene, high-density polypropylene and a high-density methylpentene, and at least one lubricant powder;
- extruding said second formula into a plurality of second formula pellet-sized shapes;
- shaping said first formula pellet-sized shapes into a first formula portion;
- shaping said second formula pellet-sized shapes into a second formula portion;
- and
- co-extruding said first and second formula portions together to form a lubricant stick having a first end portion consisting of said first formula and a second end portion consisting of said second formula.
A process for producing a lubricating stick, said process comprising the steps of:
- blending together a first formula comprising:
- (a) from about 25% to about 70% by volume of a first polymeric carrier selected from the group consisting of:
- a linear low-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, low density polyethylene, a polyolefin, and a synthetic wax;
- (b) from about 5% to about 75% by volume of at least one lubricant powder;
- (c) from about 0% to about 20% by volume of at least one synthetic extreme pressure anti-wear liquid oil;
- and
- (d) from about 0% to about 1% by volume of at least one optical brightener;
- extruding said first formula into a plurality of first formula pellet-sized shapes;
- blending together a second formula comprising:
- (a) from about 25% to about 70% by volume of a second polymeric carrier selected from the group consisting of:
- a linear high-density polyethylene, high density-polyethylene, high-density polypropylene and a high-density methylpentene;
- (b) from about 5% to about 75% by volume of at least one lubricant powder;
- (c) from about 0% to about 20% by volume of at least one synthetic extreme pressure anti-wear liquid oil;
- and
- (d) from about 0% to about 1% by volume of at least one optical brightener;
- extruding said second formula into a plurality of second formula pellet-sized shapes;
- shaping said first formula pellet-sized shapes into a first formula portion;
- shaping said second formula pellet-sized shapes into a second formula portion;
- and
- co-extruding said first and second formula portions together to form a lubricant stick having a first end portion consisting of said first formula and a second end portion consisting of said second formula.
