Abstract
A wood working knife for use in a wood working machine, comprising a knife body having a first cutting edge and an opposed second cutting edge, the knife body having a first clamping surface and a second clamping surface. The first clamping surface has opposed clamping features separated by a middle section, the opposed clamping features and the middle section being sized and shaped such that, upon the knife body being inserted into a clamping assembly, the clamping forces are localized towards the opposed cutting edges and away from the middle section.

A wood working knife for use in a wood working machine that causes the knife to advance in a cutting direction, with a front side of the knife leading in the cutting direction and a rear side of the knife trailing in the cutting direction, said knife comprising:
- a knife body having a first cutting edge and an opposed second cutting edge, the knife body having a rear clamping surface on the rear side and an opposed front clamping surface on the front side, the rear and front sides each terminating at the first cutting edge and the second cutting edge;

A knife for use in a wood working machine that causes said knife to advance in a cutting direction, with a front side of the knife leading in the cutting direction and a rear side of the knife trailing in the cutting direction, said knife comprising:
- a knife body including a first cutting edge, an opposed second cutting edge, a rear clamping surface on the rear side and an opposed front clamping surface on the front side, the rear and front sides each terminating at the first cutting edge and the second cutting edge, the rear clamping surface having opposed non-coplanar clamping features disposed about a substantially non-load bearing middle section;
- the opposed clamping features being sized and shaped to register with a knife clamping assembly to position the knife in the clamping assembly and support the knife body against cutting loads acting on the first cutting edge during the transformation of wood by the wood working machine in a direction opposite the cutting direction.
A rear clamping component for use in a knife clamping assembly of a wood working machine that causes a knife having a rear surface including non-coplanar clamping features separated by a substantially non-load bearing section to advance in a cutting direction, with a front side of the knife leading in the cutting direction and a rear side of the knife trailing in the cutting direction, the rear clamping component clamping on a rear side of said knife and comprising:
- opposed non-coplanar clamping features spaced apart by a substantially flat middle section;
- the rear clamping component being configured relative the knife such that when the knife is clamped in the clamping assembly a clamping force exerted by the rear clamping component on the knife occurs at the opposed non-coplanar clamping features of the rear clamping component and wherein the opposed clamping features of the rear clamping component and the middle section are sized and shaped to localize the clamping force from the rear clamping component away from a middle section of the knife.
