System and method providing inlined stub

A method for facilitating communications between managed and unmanaged code, comprising:

• enabling a function that is managed code to call unmanaged code via direct call and return operations incorporated within the function, and without invoking an external stub interface;
• wherein:
• the managed code is allocated from a heap within a managed software environment and is not responsible for removing itself from memory as managed code objects are automatically removed from memory when no longer being accessed;
• and
• the unmanaged code is allocated from a standard operating system heap and employs a memory and as it is responsible for freeing itself the memory it employs as unmanaged code objects are not automatically removed from memory when no longer being accessed;
• synchronizing execution between the function and the unmanaged code, such that the function of the managed code communicates with the unmanaged code;
• and
• facilitating code execution during communications with the function, wherein facilitating such code execution includes using a stack marker that is separated from within a code loop associated with a caller component that enables invocation of the function.

A system comprising a processor and memory having stored therein computer-executable components that, when executed by the processor, causes the system to perform the following:

• cause a function that is managed code to utilize direct call and return pairs to invoke unmanaged code, wherein:
• the managed code is allocated from a heap within a managed software environment and is not responsible for removing itself from memory as managed code objects are automatically removed from memory when no longer being accessed;
• and
• the unmanaged code is allocated from a standard operating system heap and is responsible for freeing itself from memory as unmanaged code objects are not automatically removed from memory when no longer being accessed;
• providing in-line security attribute checking within the function;
• verify whether the function can invoke the unmanaged code based on the in-line security attribute checking;
• cause the function to organize call and return arguments according to a convention utilized by the unmanaged code, such that the managed code uses unmanaged code conventions;
• locate a stack marker outside of a code loop associated with the managed code, wherein the stack marker is used to return from a direct call to the unmanaged code.
