Abstract
The invention provides a Stokes parameter measurement device and Stokes parameter measurement method that enable high-precision measurement. The Stokes parameter measurement device comprises a polarization splitting device which comprises an optical element formed of a birefringent crystal material and which, by means of the optical element, splits signal light to be measured into a plurality of polarized light beams and adjusts the polarization state of one or more among the plurality of polarized light beams, and a light-receiving portion for performing photoelectric conversion of an optical component of the signal light split by and emitted from the polarization splitting device.
Claims12
A Stokes parameter measurement device, comprising:
- a polarization splitting device which comprises an optical element formed of a birefringent crystal material and which, by means of the optical element, splits signal light to be measured into a plurality of polarized light beams and adjusts the polarization state of one or more among the plurality of polarized light beams;
- and
- a light-receiving portion for performing photoelectric conversion of an optical component of the signal light split by and emitted from said polarization splitting device.
A Stokes parameter measurement method, comprising the steps of:
- splitting signal light to be measured into polarized light of a first direction and polarized light of a second direction, by means of a first splitting portion having a birefringent prism;
- generating, by means of a second splitting portion having a plurality of birefringent prisms, a first group of polarized light beams corresponding to said first direction and a second group of polarized light beams corresponding to said second direction, by further splitting the polarized light split by said first splitting portion through two steps;
- combining at least one polarized light beam of said first group with at least one polarized light beam of said second group, by a predetermined combination, by means of said second splitting portion;
- adjusting, by means of a polarization adjustment portion, the polarization state of one or more among the combined light beams;
- and
- determining an optical intensity component, a 0° polarized component, a 45° polarized component and a circularly polarized component, serving as Stokes parameters, on the basis of an output of a light-receiving portion for performing photoelectric conversion of an optical component of the signal light split by and emitted from said second splitting portion and said polarization adjustment portion.
