High density hydrogen storage material

A method of reversibly producing a source of hydrogen gas comprising:

• providing a hydrogen storage material comprising LiBH4 combined with MHx, wherein greater than about 50% of M comprises Al and when M is Al then x=3, or 0;
• heating the hydrogen storage material at a temperature less than 100° C. to release hydrogen and forming a spent hydrogen storage material;
• and
• regenerating the hydrogen storage material by exposing the spent hydrogen storage material to hydrogen gas under elevated pressure and temperature.
