Abstract
A novel biotechnological process for the preparation of nitriles, starting from amides, is described. Micro-organisms of the genus Amycolatopsis, Actinomadura or Rhodococcus are employed for this process.

A process for preparing an amide comprising converting a nitrile to an amide by exposing the nitrile to an enzyme extract prepared from a microorganism of the species Rhodoccus GF270 as deposited in the Deutschen Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zeilkulturer GmbH and having accession number DSMZ 12211, wherein the enzyme extract retains nitrile hydratase activity up to at least 70° C.
