A metallic nanoparticle coated microporous substrate, the process for preparing the same and uses thereof are described.

An article comprising a microporous membrane and a discontinuous non-conductive coating of metallic nanoparticles directly thereon wherein the metallic nanoparticles comprise individual particles or agglomerates of particles having an average major dimension of 1 to 50 nm.
