Abstract
A physiological sensor has intensity compensation introduced along an optical path from emission to detection so as to compensate for unequal tissue attenuation as a function of wavelength. The sensor has emitters configured to transmit optical radiation having multiple wavelengths into a tissue site. At least one detector is capable of receiving the optical radiation after tissue attenuation. An equalization is capable of compensating optical radiation intensity so as to account for differences in tissue attenuation across at least a portion of the multiple wavelengths.
Claims11
A physiological sensor having optical intensity compensation introduced along an optical path from emission to detection so as to compensate for unequal tissue attenuation as a function of wavelength by a tissue site, the sensor comprising:
- a plurality of emitters configured to transmit optical radiation having a plurality of wavelengths into the tissue site;
- at least one detector capable of receiving the optical radiation after tissue attenuation;
- and
- an optical filter, wherein the optical filter attenuates at least a portion of a wavelength spectrum so as to compensate for an imbalance in an attenuation of the plurality of wavelengths by the tissue site.
A physiological sensor comprising:
- an emitter means for emitting optical radiation having a plurality of wavelengths into a tissue site;
- a detector means for detecting the optical radiation after tissue attenuation, wherein the tissue attenuates each of the plurality of wavelengths differently;
- and
- an equalization means for attenuating at least a portion of a wavelength spectrum so as to compensate for an imbalance in the attenuation of the plurality of wavelengths by the tissue.
A physiological sensor having optical intensity compensation introduced along an optical path from emission to detection so as to compensate for unequal tissue attenuation as a function of wavelength, the sensor comprising:
- first plurality of emitters configured to transmit a first plurality of wavelengths into a tissue site, the tissue site attenuating the first plurality of wavelengths at at least a first attenuation level;
- a second plurality of emitters configured to transmit a second plurality of wavelengths into the tissue site, the tissue site attenuating the second plurality of wavelengths at at least a second attenuation level different than the attenuation level of the first plurality of wavelengths;
- at least one detector configured to receive the optical radiation after tissue attenuation;
- and
- an optical filtering medium encapsulating the first plurality of emitters but not the second plurality of emitters, the optical filtering medium configured to compensate an optical radiation intensity of the first plurality of transmitted wavelengths so as to account for differences in tissue attenuation between the first plurality of wavelengths and the second plurality of wavelengths.
