Abstract
An implantable medical device is configured so that all of the major components including a housing and attached leads are disposed within the vasculature of a patient. A tether extends from the housing of the device to an implant location where the tether is secured to tissue outside of the vasculature. In this manner, an intravascular medical device may be implanted at a location remote from final placement, delivered via the vasculature and anchored at the initial entry point.
Claims29
A method comprising:
- implanting a lead at an anatomical location;
- implanting a housing having a power supply within a vascular structure, wherein the lead is operably coupled with the housing;
- securing the housing within the vascular structure via a tether comprising a distal end and a proximal end, wherein the proximal end is anchored outside the vascular structure and the distal end is coupled to the housing;
- and
- replacing the power supply subsequent to implanting the lead, implanting the housing and securing the housing, without removing the lead from the anatomical location.
An intravascular medical device (IVMD) comprising:
- a housing including one or more components of the IVMD;
- means for securing the housing within a vascular structure with a tether having a proximal end coupleable to a location exterior to the vascular structure and a distal end coupleable to the housing, wherein the tether is configured to permit the housing module to move within the vascular structure in response to blood flow within the vascular structure;
- means for powering the IVMD;
- and
- means for modifying the means for powering.
An intravascular medical device (IVMD) comprising:
- a housing module;
- a lead coupleable with a first end of the housing module;
- a tether comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, the distal portion coupled to the housing module, wherein the tether is configured to secure the housing module at a position within a vascular structure when the proximal portion of the tether is anchored at an anchor point distant from the position of the housing module, and the tether is configured to permit the housing module to move within the vascular structure in response to blood flow within the vascular structure;
- and
- a power source operably coupled with the housing module.
An intravascular medical device (IVMD) comprising:
- a housing module;
- a lead coupleable with a first end of the housing module;
- a tether comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, the distal portion coupled to the housing module, wherein the tether is configured to secure the housing module at a position within a vascular structure when the proximal portion of the tether is anchored at an anchor point distant from the position of the housing module, and the tether is configured to counteract forces of blood flow against the housing module, thereby securing the housing module;
- and
- a power source operably coupled with the housing module.
A method comprising:
- implanting a housing module within a vascular structure, wherein a power supply is operably coupled with the housing module and a lead is coupled to the housing module;
- and
- securing the housing module within the vascular structure via a tether, the tether comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, wherein the distal portion is coupled to the housing module, wherein securing the housing within the vascular structure via the tether comprises securing the proximal portion of the tether at an anchor point distant from the housing module, and the tether is configured to permit the housing module to move within the vascular structure in response to blood flow within the vascular structure.
A method comprising:
- implanting a housing module within a vascular structure, wherein a power supply is operably coupled with the housing module and a lead is coupled to the housing module;
- and
- securing the housing within the vascular structure via a tether, the tether comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, wherein the distal portion is coupled to the housing module, wherein securing the housing within the vascular structure via the tether comprises securing the proximal portion of the tether at an anchor point distant from the housing module, and the tether is configured to counteract forces of blood flow against the housing module, thereby securing the housing module.
A method comprising:
- implanting a housing module within a vascular structure, wherein a power supply is operably coupled with the housing module and a lead is coupled to the housing module;
- and
- securing the housing module within the vascular structure via a tether, the tether comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, wherein the distal portion is coupled to the housing module,
- wherein securing the housing within the vascular structure via the tether comprises securing the proximal portion of the tether at an anchor point distant from the housing module, and the anchor point comprises an extravascular location.
