Abstract
In a digital data communication device, power is allocated among frequency channels by selecting an initial transmission power allocation and a corresponding data rate allocation for each channel. A first channel is identified in which a given transmission power decrement results in a data rate decrement that is proportionately smaller than corresponding data rate decrements of channels other than the first channel. The transmission power allocation of the first channel is reduced by the given transmission power decrement, and the transmission power allocation in at least one channel other than the first channel is increased by the given transmission power decrement amount.
Claims18
In a communication device that transmits digital data over a plurality of frequency channels, a method of allocating power among the channels, the method comprising:
- a) selecting an initial transmission power allocation and a corresponding data rate allocation for each channel;
- b) identifying a first channel in which a given transmission power decrement results in a data rate decrement that is proportionately smaller than corresponding data rate decrements of channels other than the first channel corresponding to the given transmission power decrement;
- c) reducing the transmission power allocation of the first channel by the given transmission power decrement;
- and
- d) increasing, by the given transmission power decrement amount, the transmission power allocation among at least one channel other than the first channel.
In a communication device operable to transmit digital data over a plurality of frequency channels, an arrangement comprising:
- 1) a multi-frequency transmission circuit operable to transmit digital data over the plurality of frequency channels, each of the plurality of frequency channels having a channel transmission power;
- and
- 2) a processor, operably connected to the multi-frequency transmission circuit to control the channel transmission power of each of the plurality of frequency channels, and configured to perform a method including:
- a) selecting an initial transmission power allocation and a corresponding data rate allocation for each channel;
- b) identifying a first channel in which a given transmission power decrement results in a data rate decrement that is proportionately smaller than corresponding data rate decrements of channels other than the first channel corresponding to the given transmission power decrement;
- c) reducing the transmission power allocation of the first channel by the given transmission power decrement;
- and
- d) increasing, by the given transmission power decrement amount, the transmission power allocation among at least one channel other than the first channel.
