Abstract
A diagnostic test device comprises means for sampling a liquid biological sample. Means is provided for reacting the sample with a reagent to provide one or more visible indicia. A photodetector for scans a detection region to produce a pulsed output indicative of the presence of the one or more indicia. The photodetector is connected to a signal processing circuit for processing the pulsed output. The signal processing circuit produces an output change in response to light intensity variation which is substantially independent of baseline current.
Claims14
A diagnostic test device comprising means for sampling a liquid biological sample, means for reacting the sample with at least one reagent to provide one or more visible indicia and a photodetector arrangement for scanning a detection region to produce a pulsed output indicative of the presence of said one or more indicia, wherein the photodetector arrangement is connected to a signal processing circuit functional to produce a change in output in response to a change in detected light intensity which change in output is substantially independent of baseline photocurrent before the change, and
- wherein said photodetector arrangement comprises a photodetector and a light source, said device further comprising means to move at least part of said photodetector arrangement over a detection region which comprises the one or more indicia, and
- wherein said means to move at least part of the photodetector arrangement comprises triggered release means responsive to the presence of said liquid sample, and
- wherein the triggered release means comprises a releasable tether which upon release, allows relative movement to occur between said at least part of said photodetector arrangement and the detection region.
