Abstract
The present invention relates to methods of producing transgenic plants having resistance to blast fungus and/or leaf-blight bacteria by transforming the plants with a DNA encoding a protein that induces hypersensitive reaction-like lesion mimic, and transgenic plants, plant cells, seed and progeny having resistance to blast fungus and/or leaf-blight bacteria.
Claims13
A transformed plant cell with enhanced resistance to blast fungus and/or leaf-blight bacteria, comprising an isolated DNA encoding a protein that enhances plant resistance to blast fungus and/or leaf-blight bacteria, wherein the DNA is selected from the group consisting of:
- a) a DNA encoding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2;
- and
- b) a DNA encoding a protein comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 95% identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
A method of producing a transformed plant cell, the method comprising introducing into the plant cell an isolated DNA encoding a protein that enhances plant resistance to blast fungus and/or leaf-blight bacteria, wherein the DNA is selected from the group consisting of:
- a) a DNA encoding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2;
- and
- b) a DNA encoding a protein comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 95% identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2.
A method for producing a transformed plant having enhanced disease resistance, which comprises the steps of:
- a) introducing into a plant cell an isolated DNA encoding a protein that enhances plant resistance to blast fungus and/or leaf-blight bacteria, wherein the DNA is selected from the group consisting of:
- i) a DNA encoding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2;
- and
- ii) a DNA encoding a protein comprising an amino acid sequence having at least 95% identity to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2 ;
- and
- b) regenerating a plant from said plant cell.
