Abstract
Esters of 2-phenylalkanenitriles, such as 3-acetoxy-2-(2-chloro-5-(difluoromethoxy)phenyl)propanenitrile and 3-acetoxy-2-(4-chlorophenyl)propanenitrile, and compositions containing such esters, are useful as fungicides at very low concentrations.
Claims22
An ester of a phenylalkanenitrile having the formula:
- wherein R1 is hydrogen, C1-C5 alkyl, C1-C5 alkoxyalkyl, or C1-C5 alkoxycarbonyl, R2 is hydrogen, C1-C5 alkyl, phenyl or CH2-phenyl, and Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 are individually or collectively hydrogen, halogen, methyl, —CHF2, —CF3, —OCHF2, —OCF3, C1-C5 alkoxy, phenoxy, or —SF5, with the proviso that at least two of Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 must be hydrogen.
A fungicidal composition for combating the growth of fungi comprising a liquid or solid carrier and an effective antifungal amount of an ester of a phenylalkanenitrile having the formula:
- wherein R1 is hydrogen, C1-C5 alkyl, C1-C5 alkoxyalkyl, C1-C5 alkoxy methyl, or C1-C5 alkoxycarbonyl, R2 is hydrogen, C1-C5 alkyl, phenyl or CH2-phenyl, and Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 are individually or collectively hydrogen, halogen, methyl, —CHF2, —CF3 —OCHF2, —OCF3, C1-C5 alkoxy, phenoxy, or —SF5, with the proviso that at least two of Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4 and Y5 must be hydrogen.
