Abstract
A method for manufacturing an electrophoretic display element including partitions, which are arranged on a substrate and each of which contains a suspension composed of electrophoretic particles and a dispersion medium and a coating material for covering the suspension, is provided. The method includes the step of providing at least two nozzles at a predetermined distance from the substrate, discharging the above-mentioned suspension from one nozzle, and discharging the coating material from another nozzle, so as to adhere to the substrate.

A method for manufacturing an electrophoretic display element including microcapsules, each of the microcapsules comprising a suspension comprising electrophoretic particles and a dispersion medium and a film formed of a coating material covering the suspension, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a substrate having an electrode pattern;
- providing at least two concentrically arranged nozzles at a predetermined distance from the substrate;
- discharging the suspension from one of the concentrically arranged nozzles and discharging the coating material from another one of the concentrically arranged nozzles at a desired location of the electrode pattern on the substrate;
- and
- repeating the discharging step while the substrate is translated, thereby arranging the microcapsules on the substrate,
- wherein the discharging step comprises a step of adhering the coating material to the suspension arranged on the substrate so as to form a partition enclosing the suspension with the substrate and the coating material.
