Abstract
Various exercise apparatus have respective linkage assemblies which are movably mounted on a frame and link rotation of left and right cranks to elliptical movement of left and right foot supporting members. The linkage assemblies include separate linkage arrangements for horizontal and vertical displacement of the foot supporting members, and the linkage assemblies accommodate travel of the foot supporting members to positions laterally adjacent the cranks.
Claims11
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a frame configured to rest on a floor surface;
- a left crank and a right crank, wherein each said crank is rotatably mounted on a respective side of the frame;
- and
- a left linkage assembly and a right linkage assembly, wherein each said linkage assembly includes (a) a respective rocker link pivotally mounted on the frame, and (b) a respective foot platform operatively interconnected between a respective said rocker link and a respective said crank for movement through a respective elliptical path extending between the left crank and the right crank.
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a frame configured to rest on a floor surface;
- a left crank and a right crank, wherein each said crank is rotatably mounted on a respective side of the frame;
- and
- a left linkage assembly and a right linkage assembly, wherein each said linkage assembly includes a respective foot platform, and the left linkage assembly is operatively interconnected between the frame and a right facing portion of the left crank, thereby linking rotation of the left crank to movement of the left foot platform through an elliptical path, and the right linkage assembly is operatively interconnected between the frame and a left facing portion of the right crank, thereby linking rotation of the right crank to movement of the right foot platform through an elliptical path, and each said linkage assembly includes a link having a first end rotatably connected to a respective said crank, and an opposite, second end constrained to move in reciprocal fashion relative to the frame;
- and
- a left rocker link pivotally interconnected between the frame and the second end of the link in the left linkage assembly, and a right rocker link pivotally interconnected between the frame and the second end of the link in the right linkage assembly.
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a frame configured to rest on a floor surface;
- a left crank and a right crank, wherein each said crank is rotatably mounted on a respective side of the frame;
- and
- a left linkage assembly and a right linkage assembly, wherein each said linkage assembly includes a respective foot platform, and the left linkage assembly is operatively interconnected between the frame and a right facing portion of the left crank, thereby linking rotation of the left crank to movement of the left foot platform through an elliptical path, and the right linkage assembly is operatively interconnected between the frame and a left facing portion of the right crank, thereby linking rotation of the right crank to movement of the right foot platform through an elliptical path, and each said linkage assembly includes a link having a first end rotatably connected to a respective said crank, and an opposite, second end constrained to move in reciprocal fashion relative to the frame, wherein each said foot platform is rollable along a respective said link.
A method of guiding a person's feet through elliptical paths that laterally overlap circular paths defined by rotation of left and right cranks rotatably mounted on a frame, comprising the steps of:
- providing a frame configured to rest on a floor surface;
- rotatably mounting left and right cranks on respective left and right sides of the frame;
- positioning left and right foot platforms between the left and right cranks;
- and
- linking rotation of the cranks to movement of the foot platforms through elliptical paths that extend between the left and right cranks.
