## Abstract

This invention provides HIF-3α nucleic acid and sequences. Also provided are methods for using HIF-3α nucleic acids, proteins, fragments, antibodies, probes, and cells, to characterize HIF-3α, modulate HIF-3α cellular levels, induce angiogenesis, improve muscular function, and treat coronary and cardiac diseases in mammals.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An isolated or purified nucleic acid comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of:
the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1;
the nucleotide sequence that is fully complementary to the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1; and
nucleotide sequences having at least 95% identity to the full length of the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The nucleic acid of claim 1, wherein it comprises a nucleotide sequence having at least 95% nucleotide sequence identity to the full length of a nucleic acid encoding the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2.
