## Abstract

A method for determining potential for body odor and a method for determining the effectiveness of a deodorant carried out by detecting a substance represented by the following formula (1) or a derivative thereof: wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for determining the effectiveness of a deodorant comprising:
quantitatively measuring a substance represented by the following formula (1):
wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein, in formula (1), R1 is a methyl group, R2 is a n-propyl group, and R3 is a hydrogen atom.

### Claim 3

A method for determining the effectiveness of a deodorant comprising:
quantitatively measuring a substance comprising formula (1) or a derivative thereof:
wherein
R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group,
R2 is an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and
R3 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein R1 is a methyl group.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein R2 is an alkyl group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein R2 is a methyl group.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein R2 is an alkyl group having 4 or 5 carbon atoms.

### Claim 9 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein R3 is a hydrogen atom.

### Claim 10 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein R3 is a methyl group.

### Claim 11 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein in formula (1), R1 is a methyl group, R2 is a n-propyl group, and R3 is a hydrogen atom.

### Claim 12 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, comprising quantitatively measuring a derivative of formula (1) in which the amino and/or carboxy group of formula (1) has formed a peptide bond.

### Claim 13 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the compound of formula (1) is selected from the group consisting of:
or derivative thereof.

### Claim 14 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3 which quantifies said substance using a chromatographic method.

### Claim 15 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3 which quantifies said substance using an immunological method.
