## Abstract

A liquid (ink) supply system having a closed structure with respect to an inkjet recording head is configured such that a gas hindering a recording operation and a liquid supply operation can be rapidly and smoothly eliminated from a liquid supply system without involving any complication in structure. An ink tank (10) and a liquid chamber (50) for leading ink supplied to the recording head (20) are brought into fluid communication via two communication channels (53 and 54). Thus, in the state where the gas exists inside the liquid chamber, the ink is moved from the ink tank (10) via one communication channel (53), while the gas is transferred to the ink tank (10) via the other communication channel (54).

## Claims

### Claim 1

An ink tank comprising:
an ink containing space;
plural communication channels that connect said ink tank to a liquid chamber communicating with a recording head for ejecting an ink and thereby comes into fluid communication with said liquid chamber, said liquid chamber forming a substantial closed space except said plural communication channels and said recording head;
a movable section which forms at least a partial portion of an ink containing space and which is displacable or deformable to change an internal volume of the ink containing space; and
urging means for urging said movable section in a direction for increasing the internal volume to thereby place the inside of said liquid chamber into a negative pressure state relative to an atmosphere pressure.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

An ink tank as claimed in claim 1, further comprising means for introducing atmosphere directly into said ink tank in order to adjust the negative pressure state.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

An ink tank as claimed in claim 1, whereby a pressure inside an ink supply system for supplying the ink to the recording head is adjusted.

### Claim 4

An ink tank comprising:
an ink containing portion attachable to and detachable from a liquid chamber having a recording head for ejecting an ink,
wherein the ink containing portion being attachable to and detachable from the liquid chamber via plural communication channels,
wherein the liquid chamber forms a substantial closed space except said plural communication channels and said recording head in a state wherein said ink containing portion is attached to the liquid chamber,
wherein the ink containing portion includes a movable section which forms at least a partial portion of the ink containing portion and which is displacable or deformable to change an internal volume of said ink containing portion, and urging means for urging the movable section in a direction for increasing the internal volume to thereby place the inside of the liquid chamber into a negative pressure state relative to an atmosphere pressure, and
wherein said ink containing portion has means for introducing atmosphere directly into the ink containing portion in order to adjust the negative pressure state.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

An ink tank as claimed in claim 4, wherein said ink containing portion further comprises a connecting section structured to make connection to the plural communication channels

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

An ink tank as claimed in claim 4, wherein said ink containing portion has at least a part of the plural communication channels integral therewith.

### Claim 7 (depends on 4)

An ink tank as claimed in claim 4, whereby a pressure inside an ink supply system for supplying the ink to the recording head is adjusted.
