System and method for remote device management

A computer-storage medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions for performing a method of configuring a network device from a remote client, the method comprising the steps of:

• providing at least one managing function associated with the network device to the remote client upon receiving a request from the remote client to manage the network device;
• locating a selected downloadable unit embedded in the software program binary file in response to selection of a managing function;
• and
• forwarding the downloadable unit to the remote client.

A network device configured to be remotely managed from a remote client, the network device comprising:

• a memory adapted to store at least one downloadable unit embedded in a software binary file, the downloadable unit corresponding to at least one management function of the network device;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to locate a requested downloadable unit associated with a requested management function from the remote client,
• wherein the network device forwards the requested downloadable unit to the remote client.

A system for managing a network device from a remote client comprising:

• means for receiving a request from a remote client to manage a network device;
• means for providing at least one managing function associated with the network device to the remote client, the selected managing function having a corresponding downloadable unit of a software program binary file, wherein the network device includes a web server configured to communicate with a software program;
• means for locating the selected downloadable unit embedded in the software program binary file;
• and
• means for forwarding the downloadable unit to the remote client.
