Abstract
An exercise apparatus includes a rigid connector link having a first portion rotatably connected to a crank, a second portion constrained to move in reciprocating fashion, and a third portion connected to a foot support. The resulting assembly links rotation of the crank to movement of the foot support through a generally elliptical path. The connection points may be moved relative to one another and/or a supporting frame to adjust the size, shape, and/or orientation of the path.
Claims33
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a frame including a flat base adapted to rest on a floor surface, and a stanchion extending upward from a forward end of the base;
- a seat mounted on an opposite, rearward end of the base, wherein the seat and the frame cooperate to define a U-shaped configuration;
- a rotating member mounted on the frame for rotation about an axis;
- a rocker link pivotally mounted on the frame;
- and
- a connector link having a first portion connected to a radially displaced portion of the rotating member, a second portion connected to the rocker link, and a third portion connected to a foot support, wherein rotation of the rotating member is linked to movement of the foot support through a generally elliptical path.
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a frame including a flat based adapted to rest on a floor surface, and a stanchion extending upward from a forward end of the base;
- a seat mounted on an opposite, rearward end of the base, wherein the seat and the frame cooperate to define a U-shaped configuration;
- a rotating member mounted on the frame for rotation about an axis;
- a guide mounted on the frame;
- a connector link having a first portion connected to a radially displaced portion of the rotating member, a second portion connected to the guide, and a third portion connected to a foot support, wherein rotation of the rotating member is linked to movement of the foot support through a generally elliptical path;
- and
- a handle linked to the connector link and constrained to move as the rotating member rotates.
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a frame including a flat base adapted to rest on a floor surface, and a stanchion extending upward from a forward end of the base;
- a seat mounted on an opposite, rearward end of the base, wherein the seat and the frame cooperate to define a U-shaped configuration;
- a rotating member mounted on the frame for rotation about an axis;
- a guide mounted on the frame, wherein the seat is disposed at a first elevation above the floor surface, and the guide is disposed above the first elevation;
- and
- a connector link having a first portion connected to a radially displaced portion of the rotating member, a second portion connected to the guide, and a third portion connected to a foot support, wherein rotation of the rotating member is linked to movement of the foot support through a generally elliptical path.
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a frame including a flat base adapted to rest on a floor surface, and a stanchion extending upward from a forward end of the base;
- a seat mounted on an opposite, rearward end of the base, wherein the seat and the frame cooperate to define a U-shaped configuration;
- a rotating member mounted on the frame for rotation about an axis;
- a guide mounted on the frame;
- a connector link having a first portion connected to a radially displaced portion of the rotating member, a second portion connected to the guide, and a third portion rigidly connected to a foot support, wherein rotation of the rotating member is linked to movement of the foot support through a generally elliptical path.
An exercise apparatus, comprising:
- a U-shaped frame including a flat base adapted to rest on a floor surface;
- a seat mounted on an upper rearward end of the U-shaped frame;
- a rotating member mounted on an upper forward end of the U-shaped frame for rotation about an axis;
- a guide mounted on the frame;
- a connector link having a first portion connected to a radially displaced portion of the rotating member, a second portion connected to the guide, and a third portion connected to a foot support in a space defined within the U-shaped frame, wherein rotation of the rotating member is linked to movement of the foot support through a generally elliptical path.
