Abstract
A novel gene (designated PC-LECTIN) that is highly overexpressed in prostate cancer and its encoded protein is described. PC-LECTIN in normal human tissues is restricted to testis, but is highly expressed in prostate cancer. Consequently, PC-LECTIN provides a diagnostic and/or therapeutic target for prostate cancer.
Claims7
A method of detecting the presence of a PC-LECTIN protein in a test sample, comprising:
- providing the test sample, wherein the test sample is prostate tissue;
- contacting the sample with an antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof which binds to a PC-LECTIN protein comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO. 2;
- and
- detecting the binding of PC-LECTIN protein in the sample thereto, wherein detection of the PC-LECTIN protein correlates to the presence of an androgen-dependent prostate cancer cell in the test sample.
