Abstract
The present invention involves a system and method for producing bimetallic pipe. In one embodiment of the present invention, the method includes inserting an inner shell into an outer shell and reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell by drawing the outer shell and inner shell through a die without the use of a mandrel placed in the inner shell. In another embodiment of the present invention, the method includes inserting an inner shell into an outer shell and reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell by sizing the outer shell using at least one roller stand.
Claims27
A method for producing bimetallic pipe comprising:
- providing an outer shell and an inner shell with the outer shell having an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter associated with the inner shell;
- inserting the inner shell within the outer shell;
- swaging an end of the inner shell with an end of the outer shell wherein the swaging comprises pinching a portion of the outer shell to engage a portion of the inner shell to form a swaged end;
- inserting the swaged end through a die;
- and
- reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell and eliminate the annulus between inner shell and outer shell, by drawing the outer shell and inner shell through the die without placing a mandrel within the inner shell.
A method for producing bimetallic pipe comprising:
- providing an outer shell and an inner shell with the outer shell having an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter associated with the inner shell;
- inserting the inner shell within the outer shell;
- swaging an end of the inner shell with an end of the outer shell comprising pinching a portion of the outer shell to engage a portion of the inner shell to form a swaged end;
- inserting the swaged end through a die;
- eliminating an annulus that is disposed between the inner shell and the outer shell by reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell by drawing the outer shell and inner shell through the die without placing a mandrel within the inner shell;
- and
- wherein reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell further comprises deforming the inner shell to half wall thickness of the inner shell.
A method for producing bimetallic pipe comprising:
- providing an outer shell and an inner shell with the outer shell having an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter associated with the inner shell;
- inserting the inner shell within the outer shell;
- connecting an end of the inner shell with an end of the outer shell by swaging which comprises pinching a portion of the outer shell to engage a portion of the inner shell to form a swaged end;
- reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell by drawing the outer shell and inner shell through a die to eliminate a gap that exists between the inner shell and the outer shell without placing a mandrel within the inner shell;
- and
- wherein reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell further comprises deforming the inner wall to approximately an elastic limit of the inner shell.
A method for producing bimetallic pipe comprising:
- providing an outer shell and an inner shell with the outer shell having an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter associated with the inner shell;
- disposing the inner shell within the outer shell;
- swaging an end of the inner shell with an end of the outer shell comprising pinching a portion of the outer shell to engage a portion of the inner shell to form a swaged end;
- inserting the swaged end through a die thereby obtaining a crimped swaged end having a smaller diameter than the diameter of the swaged end prior to the inserting through the die;
- reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell and eliminate an annulus between the inner shell and the outer shell, by drawing the outer shell and inner shell through the die without placing a mandrel within the inner shell;
- and
- cropping the crimped swaged end thereby obtaining a bimetallic pipe with a consistent size.
A method for producing bimetallic pipe comprising:
- providing an outer shell and an inner shell with the outer shell having an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter associated with the inner shell;
- disposing the inner shell within the outer shell;
- swaging an end of the inner shell with an end of the outer shell comprising pinching a portion of the outer shell to engage a portion of the inner shell to form a swaged end;
- inserting the swaged end through a die;
- reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell to eliminate an annulus between the inner shell and the outer shell by drawing the outer shell and inner shell through the die without placing a mandrel within the inner shell thereby obtaining a bimetallic pipe;
- and
- annealing the bimetallic pipe by heating the outer shell and the inner shell to a designated temperature for a sufficient amount of time and then cooling the bimetallic pipe.
A method for producing bimetallic pipe comprising:
- providing an outer shell and an inner shell with the outer shell having an inner diameter larger than an outer diameter associated with the inner shell;
- aligning the inner shell within the outer shell such that the ends of the inner shell and the ends of the outer shell are offset with each other;
- swaging an end of the offset outer shell with an end of the offset inner shell by pinching a portion of the outer shell to engage a small portion of the inner shell to form an offset swaged end;
- inserting the offset swaged end through a die;
- reducing the outer shell to securely engage the inner shell to eliminate an annulus between the inner shell and the outer shell by drawing the outer shell and inner shell through the die without placing a mandrel within the inner shell thereby obtaining a bimetallic pipe;
- and
- cropping the offset swaged end.
