Abstract
A fiber optic connector holder including a housing with at least one cavity for receiving a fiber optic connector with a dust cap in place about a terminal end of the connector. The housing may be integrally molded with retaining structures for releasably engaging the fiber optic connector and releasable catches for mounting the housing at a mount location. The presence of a fiber optic connector within a cavity of the housing may prevent the removal of the housing from a mounting location.
Claims20
A fiber optic connector holder comprising:
- a housing with a first end, a second end, and a pair of opposing sides extending between the first and second ends;
- the housing including a cavity extending from the first end to the second end for receiving a fiber optic connector including a dust cap mounted about a ferrule;
- the first end of the housing being configured to engage with the fiber optic connector when the fiber optic connector and the mounted dust cap are arranged within the cavity;
- each of the opposing sides including a flexible arm, which extends from a location adjacent the first end toward the second end, and a fixed tab arranged adjacent the second end;
- each arm including a proximal end and a distal portion, the proximal end being attached to the corresponding side of the housing adjacent the first end, and the distal portion including a movable tab with an outer ramped surface angled toward the first end and a locking surface opposing the fixed tab when the arm is arranged in an undeflected position;
- each arm including an inner surface and each side including an inner surface within the cavity, the inner surfaces of the arm and the corresponding side being generally aligned when the arm is arranged in the undeflected position;
- and
- the inner surface of each arm extending into the cavity beyond the inner surface of the corresponding side and preventing insertion of the fiber optic connector into the cavity when each arm is arranged in a deflected position.
A fiber optic connector holder comprising:
- an integrally molded one piece housing, the housing including a pair of cavities extending from a first end to a second end;
- the housing being defined by a bottom, a pair of opposing sides, a central longitudinal bulkhead extending parallel to and between the sides, and an open top;
- the open top including a first transverse bulkhead extending between the sides adjacent the first end and a second transverse bulkhead extending between the sides adjacent the second end;
- each cavity including a fiber optic connector retaining structure adjacent the first end;
- each cavity configured to receive and releasably engage a fiber optic connector through the first end, the fiber optic connector including a releasable catch to engage the retaining structure;
- and
- each side including a movable tab and a fixed tab, the tabs defining opposing catches configured to releasably mount the housing within an opening with opposing side walls.
A fiber optic connector holder assembly comprising:
- an assembly housing defining a plurality of mounting locations;
- at least one fiber optic connector holder mounted at one of the mounting locations, the fiber optic connector holder including:
- an integrally molded one piece housing, the housing including a pair of cavities extending from a first end to a second end;
- the housing being defined by a bottom, a pair of opposing sides, a central longitudinal bulkhead extending parallel to and between the sides, and an open top;
- the open top including a first transverse bulkhead extending between the sides adjacent the first end and a second transverse bulkhead extending between the sides adjacent the second end;
- each cavity including a fiber optic connector retaining structure adjacent the first end;
- each cavity configured to receive and releasably engage a fiber optic connector through the first end, the fiber optic connector including a releasable catch to engage the retaining structure;
- and
- each of the opposing sides including a movable tab and a fixed tab, the tabs defining opposing catches configured to releasably mount the housing within an opening at the mounting location, wherein the fiber optic connector inhibits inward deflection of one of the movable tabs when received and releasably engaged in one of the cavities.
