Method of sealing an array of cell microstructures using microencapsulated adhesive

A microstructure comprising:

• a first substrate;
• a wall microstructure extending from said first substrate, said wall microstructure including an exposed end portion and at least partially defining a plurality of microstructural chambers;
• a substance disposed in one or more of said plurality of microstructural chambers;
• a second substrate having a first side positioned adjacent said end portion of said wall microstructure;
• an adhesive disposed between said end portion of said wall microstructure and said first side of said second substrate, said adhesive affixing said second substrate on said wall microstructure such that said plurality of microstructural chambers are encapsulated, said adhesive dispensed from adhesive microcapsules such that a plurality of unruptured adhesive microcapsules are disposed along said first side of said second substrate;
• and,
• a first coating disposed along at least a portion said plurality of unruptured adhesive microcapsules, said first coating capable of modifying an interaction between said substance and said plurality of unruptured adhesive microcapsules.

A display comprising:

• a first substrate:
• a wall microstructure extending from said first substrate, said wall microstructure including an exposed end portion and at least partially defining a plurality of microstructural chambers;
• an electrophoretic ink disposed in said plurality of microstructural chambers, said electrophoretic ink having a dielectric constant and a refractive index;
• a second substrate having a first side positioned adjacent said end portion of said wall microstructure;
• an adhesive disposed between said end portion of said wall microstructure and said first side of said second substrate, said adhesive affixing said second substrate on said wall microstructure such that said electrophoretic ink is encapsulated within said plurality of microstructural chambers, said adhesive dispensed from adhesive microcapsules such that a plurality of unruptured adhesive microcapsules are disposed along at least said second substrate;
• and,
• a first coating disposed along at least a portion of said plurality of unruptured adhesive microcapsules that is capable of modifying an interaction between said electrophoretic ink and at least said portion of said plurality of unruptured adhesive microcapsules.
