Liquid crystal display and electronic appliance

A liquid crystal display, comprising:

• a first substrate;
• a second substrate;
• a liquid crystal layer in between the first and second substrates;
• a transparent electrode portion disposed between the liquid crystal layer and the first substrate at a transmissive section for transmissive display;
• a reflective electrode portion disposed between the liquid crystal layer and the first substrate at a reflective section for reflective display, the reflective electrode portion contacting the transparent electrode portion;
• a recessed portion and a projecting portion making a thickness of the liquid crystal layer thicker at the transmissive section than at the reflective section, the recessed portion being located between the liquid crystal layer and the second substrate at a position corresponding to the transparent electrode portion, the projecting portion being located between the liquid crystal layer and the second substrate at a position corresponding to the reflective electrode portion;
• and
• a color filter located between the second substrate and the liquid crystal layer at a second substrate side of the recessed portion and the projecting portion.
