Abstract
The invention provides isolated cellulose synthase nucleic acids and their encoded proteins. The present invention provides methods and compositions relating to altering cellulose synthase concentration and/or composition of plants. The invention further provides recombinant expression cassettes, host cells, and transgenic plants.

An isolated nucleic acid encoding a functional cellulose synthase, said polynucleotide selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a polynucleotide having at least 95% sequence identity, as determined by the BLAST 2.0 algorithm under default parameters, to the full length polypeptide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- (b) a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- (c) a polynucleotide of SEQ ID NO:
- 1.
