Abstract
A nonaqueous electrolyte battery includes a positive electrode and a negative electrode. The positive electrode comprises a positive electrode layer containing a metal compound. The metal compound contains lithium and at least one kind of metal selected from the group consisting of cobalt, nickel, manganese, iron and vanadium. The negative electrode comprises a negative electrode layer containing a negative electrode active material having a Li ion insertion potential not lower than 0.4 V (vs. Li/Li+). The positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer satisfy formulas (1) to (3) given below: 0.5m2/g≦Sn≦50m2/g (1) 5≦(Sn/Sp)≦100 (2) 0.5≦(Lp/Ln)<1 (3).

A nonaqueous electrolyte battery comprising:
- a positive electrode comprising a positive electrode layer containing a metal compound, a conductive agent and a binder, the metal compound containing lithium and at least one metal selected from the group consisting of cobalt, nickel, manganese, iron and vanadium;
- a negative electrode comprising a negative electrode layer containing a conductive agent, a binder and a negative electrode active material which is a titanium-containing metal composite oxide having a Li ion insertion potential not lower than 0.4 V (vs. Li/Li+), the negative electrode layer having a porosity of 20 to 50%;
- and
- a nonaqueous electrolyte;
- wherein the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer satisfy formulas (1) to (3) given below:
- 0.5m2/g≦Sn≦50m2/g (1)
- 5≦(Sn/Sp)≦100 (2)
- 0.5≦(Lp/Ln)<1 (3)
- where Sn denotes a specific surface area (m2/g) of the negative electrode layer as determined by the BET method, Sp denotes a specific surface area (m2/g) of the positive electrode layer as determined by the BET method, Ln denotes a thickness (μm) of the negative electrode layer, and Lp denotes a thickness (μm) of the positive electrode layer.
A battery pack comprising nonaqueous electrolyte batteries, each of the nonaqueous electrolyte batteries comprising:
- a positive electrode comprising a positive electrode layer containing a metal compound, a conductive agent and a binder, the metal compound containing lithium and at least one kind of metal selected from the group consisting of cobalt, nickel, manganese, iron and vanadium;
- a negative electrode comprising a negative electrode layer containing a conductive agent, a binder and a negative electrode active material which is a titanium-containing metal composite oxide having a Li ion insertion potential not lower than 0.4 V (vs. Li/Li+), the negative electrode layer having a porosity of 20 to 50%;
- and
- a nonaqueous electrolyte;
- wherein the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer satisfy formulas (1) to (3) given below:
- 0.5m2/g≦Sn≦50m2/g (1)
