A proton conductive polymer comprising:
- an aromatic steric compound unit;
- a proton conductive compound unit;
- and
- a repeating unit represented by formula (2):
- wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 each independently represents a substituent having from 1 to 10 carbon atom(s), and R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different;
- and
- P, Q and M each independently represents a positive integer.

A fuel cell comprising:
- an anode;
- a cathode;
- and
- a proton conductive membrane between the anode and the cathode,
- wherein the proton conductive membrane comprises a polymer containing an aromatic steric compound unit and a proton conductive compound unit, the polymer comprises a repeating unit represented by formula (2):
- wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 each independently represents a substituent having from 1 to 10 carbon atom(s), and R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different;
- and
- P, Q and M each independently represents a positive integer.
