Abstract
A photoactive fiber is provided, as well as a method of fabricating such a fiber. The fiber has a conductive core including a first electrode. An organic layer surrounds and is electrically connected to the first electrode. A transparent second electrode surrounds and is electrically connected to the organic layer. Other layers, such as blocking layers or smoothing layers, may also be incorporated into the fiber. The fiber may be woven into a cloth.
Claims6
A method, comprising:
- coating a conductive core including a first electrode with an organic photoactive layer, said organic photoactive layer surrounding the conductive core and electrically connected to the first electrode, wherein the organic photoactive layer comprises a donor type material and an acceptor type material forming a donor-acceptor heterojunction that forms excitons by absorption of photons in the organic photoactive layer, wherein the excitons formed in the organic photoactive layer are within an exciton diffusion length of a donor-acceptor interface;
- and
- depositing a transparent second electrode over the organic photoactive layer, whereby the second electrode is surrounding the organic photoactive layer and electrically connected to the organic photoactive layer, wherein the first electrode, the organic photoactive layer and the second electrode form a photosensitive device.
