Printed circuit board printing system and method using liquid electrophotographic printing

A method of rendering a printed circuit board (PCB) using a liquid electrophotographic printer, comprising:

• providing at least one reservoir of electrically conductive ink to the printer, the electrically conductive ink including metallic nano-particles;
• providing at least one reservoir of liquid dielectric ink to the printer;
• providing an ink receiving substrate to the printer;
• rendering an electrostatic image of a first circuit layer having at least one conductive trace line on a photosensitive medium within the printer, the electrostatic image of the at least one conductive line attracting the electrically conductive ink to the photosensitive medium as at least one electrically conductive ink trace line;
• transferring the electrically conductive ink trace to a transfer roller, the transfer roller applying the first circuit layer electrically conductive ink trace to the ink receiving substrate;
• rendering at electrostatic image of at least one insulation area on a photosensitive medium within the printer, the insulation area aligned to at least one first layer conductive ink trace, the electrostatic image of the at least one insulation area attracting the dielectric ink to the photosensitive medium as a dielectric ink area;
• and
• transferring the dielectric ink area to a transfer roller, the transfer roller applying the dielectric ink area to the ink receiving substrate, wherein a boundary delineation occurs between any points of contact between the applied electrically conductive ink and the applied dielectric ink such that the electrically conductive ink traces and the dielectric ink are substantially immiscible.
