Abstract
Apparatus and methods are disclosed for precision alignment and assembly of opto-electronic components relative to one another.
Claims17
A method comprising:
- aligning a first optical component relative to a second optical component that is attached to a platform such that the first optical component is spaced apart from the platform;
- while maintaining the first optical component in position relative to the second optical component, inserting a wedge between the first optical component and the platform such that the wedge is in contact with both the first optical component and the platform;
- and
- attaching the wedge to the first optical component and to the platform to thereby support the first optical component.

A method comprising:
- aligning and providing external support to position a first optical component relative to a second optical component that is aftached to a platform such that the first optical component is spaced apart from the platform;
- while maintaining the first optical component in position relative to the second optical component, sliding a trapezoidal wedge along a surface of the platform while pushing the wedge down against the platform using the alignment system to insert the wedge between the first optical component and the platform such that the wedge is in contact with both the first optical component and the platform;
- attaching the wedge to the first optical component and to the platform;
- and
- removing the external support from the first optical component.
