A process for the preparation of a compound of the formula:
- wherein R2 is lower alkyl and R3 is optionally substituted phenyl, comprising reacting a compound of the formula:
- wherein R2 is the same as defined above with a compound of the formula:
- R3—CHO (VI)
- wherein R3 is the same as defined above to obtain a compound of the formula:
- wherein R2 and R3 are the same as defined above, and reacting Compound (VII) with a base in an organic solvent.
