Abstract
Implantable cardiac drug delivery systems. The systems are installed endocardially into a chamber in the heart, and are variously capable of delivering anti-arrhythmia agents into the heart wall, and into the epicardial space outside the heart, and into other chambers in the heart through the septa of the heart.
Claims7
A method for controlling the motion of a heart having a heart wall, said method comprising the steps of:
- inserting a catheter having a distal end with a fixation structure transcutaneously into a chamber of the heart of a patient;
- attaching the distal end of the catheter to the heart wall using a fixation structure;
- injecting block producing agents transendocardially to a depth within the heart wall at a site in the myocardial conduction system adjacent to the HIS bundle through the catheter to produce a transient conduction block locally at the site in the myocardial conduction system to stop normal contraction of the heart;
- and
- pacing the heart to provide hemodynamic stability when normal contraction is required for hemodynamic stability.

A method for causing transient conduction block of a heart having a heart wall, said method comprising the steps of:
- implanting a defibrillator or pacemaker lead within a heart;
- providing a reservoir of conduction block producing agent within a patient;
- inserting a catheter having a distal end with a fixation structure transcutaneously into a chamber of the heart of the patient to provide a fluid pathway from the reservoir to the heart;
- attaching the distal end of the catheter to the heart wall using a fixation structure;
- injecting block producing agent transendocardially to a depth within the heart wall at a site in the myocardial conduction system adjacent to the HIS bundle through the catheter to produce a transient conduction block locally at the site in the myocardial conduction system to stop normal contraction of the heart;
- and
- pacing the heart or defibrillating the heart.
